Harry Callahan

Harry Callahan is an American photographer born in 1912. He is said to be one of the most influential photographers in the 20th Century. Callahan began teaching himself photography at the age of 22 and was offered a job at The Institute of Design in Chicago to teach photography classes in 1946.  Although Callahan took pictures everyday he didn't produce more than half a dozen final images a year.  Callahan's wife, Eleanor, was his prime subject and essential to his art from 1947 to 1960.  In 1996 Callahan was awarded the National Medal of Arts and he died in 1999.
