Color theory is a body of practical guidance to color mixing and the visual impact of specific color combinations. The color wheel is an example of color theory.

Research, Investigate, Inquire

     Research is the action of trying to find information about a subject. To inquire is to ask questions, and to investigate is to look deeper into something.  In order to want to research a topic one must first inquire about a topic and then investigate it.  The difference between research, investigate, and inquire is that they are all different steps to understanding a new art form.

Scientific Method and Creative Process

    The scientific method is a method of investigation involving observation and theory to test scientific hypothesis. The creative process is an ongoing, circular and multi-dimensional process of discovery, exploration, selection, combination, refinement and reflection in the creation of something new.

Most of the solutions one makes now will not have a very big impact on their life overall.  They are just very small steps to get them where they are going.

How do artists get inspired?

    I think artists get inspired by everyday things, but something that inspires one person may be just another everyday object to another person.  Artists may also get inspired by events that happened in their life or in the life of another.  What inspires someone is very personal for them.  If two artist see the same bottle cap one may be inspired to make a necklace or a sculpture and the other may not get an idea for anything.

   The creative process is not just iterative; it’s also recursive. It plays out “in the large” and “in the small”—in defining the broadest goals and concepts and refining the smallest details. It branches like a tree, and each choice has ramifications, which may not be known in advance.  

Julie Chen

    Julie Chen is a book artist that says her approach to the artist’s book involves intensive explorations of both form and content.  Her work is heavily rooted in the ideas of the book as a physical object and a time-based medium.

Civilization makes us have to get out and do productive things.  Without civilization we would all be very lazy and just turn into boring plain vegetables.

Manga and Grant Wood

    Manga is the Japanese word for comics.  It is used in the English-speaking world as a generic term for all comic books and graphic novels that were originally published in Japan.  In Japan, manga is either read in serialized form in monthly magazines or comic books, or in graphic novels, which are book-length comics. 
    Grant Wood was an American painter best known for his work in the American midwest,particularly the painting American Gothic.
